Dry Eye Disease

What is Dry Eye?

Are your eyes irritated, red, dry, itchy, or watery? Then you may have dry eye.

Dry Eye Disease is a very common condition, with nearly 49 M people affected in the United States.

Dry eye occurs when your tears cannot adequately provide moisture to your eyes. You may not be producing enough tears, or you may be producing poor quality tears. Tears can be inadequate and unstable for many reasons.

If left untreated, dry eye can lead to inflammation and damage to the eye's surface.

Dry Eye Treatment

There are several approaches to treating dry eye.

  • To treat the symptoms of dry eye, or what we like to call the "bandaid approach", we recommend:
    • Artificial Tears
    • Eye Masks
    • Vitamins
    • Prescription Eye Drops
    • Punctual Plugs

  • To treat the cause of dry eye we recommend:
    • Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) with Lumenis Optilight
      • IPL is a light based therapy that uses precise, intense broad spectrum light to reduce inflammatory factors that cause dry eye
    • Radio Frequency (RF) with Lumenis Optiplus
      • RF is a method that involves applying radio waves to the skin to help decrease inflammatory factors that cause dry eye
